Subject: KFlop Steppers
Greetings,

I have been exclusively using the KFlop with the KStep for steppers. I am wanting to try out 5 phase stepper motors from Oriental Motor with a 0.36 degree step angle with encoder feedback for the KFlop. To do this I will need to use their drives.

My concern is that their drives automatically change to microstepping at higher RPM. How would I handle this with the KFlop? I want the KFlop configured to microstep because of the greater resolution this provides. If the drivers are changing back and forth between micro and normal stepping, would this give me funny errors on my encoder feedback?

Has anyone tried this out before?

Thanks,

Scott

Scott,

are you sure the required input steps changes?

I would very much doubt that it does, and what is being misunderstood is the microsteps being provided from the drive to the motor reduces the number of microsteps and eventually changing to full step mode as the speed increases. This is common place for most modern stepper drivers, as there is no benefit to be had from microstepping above a certain speed.
